All across the country as hospitals face shortages of critical supplies and brace for the impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our local community organizations are taking preemptive steps to prepare our local healthcare providers and workers with the supplies they will need in the days and weeks to come. The El Dorado Hills Library, utilizing their 3D printing lab, is currently printing face shields for local area hospitals. Additionally, the lab volunteer at the Library has retooled the equipment he uses for his small startup business to produce the face shields in much larger quantities than the 3D print lab at the Library can manage.
The staff at the El Dorado Hills Library will be sanitizing and packaging the face shields for delivery to local area hospitals. As of April 4th, 400 face shields had been produced but this is a drop in the bucket compared to the demand for these critical supplies. Marshall Hospital alone has requested 2000 of these face shields to avoid shortages in the event of a surge of COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County.
The El Dorado Community Foundation, through the Coronavirus Relief Fund, is supporting the production of these face shields for our front line healthcare workers with an initial grant of $10,000 in funding. We will need community financial support in order to sustain this funding.
