Our community, our Club, and those that knew her, have all lost a true champion this week with the passing of Maureen Carter. Her vision of what philanthropy could do for the community she called home has transformed what giving looks like in El Dorado County. Our Club is better because of Maureen. Our County is better because of Maureen. All those that knew her are better because of Maureen. She fought hard over the past year and is now at rest and we ask that you keep Jim, Tiffany, Sarah and all those that loved her, in your prayers, as they navigate the loss of this extraordinary woman. We take the lessons we learned from Maureen. To be gracious, to be kind, to be generous, to laugh and to love. We take these lessons with us, and we pledge to carry on the work she believed in. To make our community better in whatever way we can. And as we take the baton from her, we are mindful that while this is incredibly sad and that life isn’t fair, she would want us to push forward and to be the best version of ourselves. And push forward we will, albeit with a new limp created by the loss we feel. "You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. It’s like having a broken leg that never heals perfectly—that still hurts when the weather gets cold, but you learn to dance with the limp." – Anne Lamott ... See MoreSee Less

It was an inspiring day in Sacramento alongside our fellow community foundation leaders from across California as part of the League of California Community Foundations. Together, the League represents 43 community foundations that collectively awarded more than $4.5 billion in philanthropic grants and $25.5 million in scholarships last fiscal year — a powerful reminder of the incredible impact local philanthropy has in strengthening communities throughout California. Today’s conversations focused on key issues shaping our communities, including California’s Governor’s race and ballot measures, revitalizing local journalism, strengthening local leadership, and preparing for increasing pressures on community safety-net services. El Dorado Community Foundation is grateful to be part of such an inspiring and mission-driven group of collective leaders working together to create lasting impact across our state. ...
