Five years after the Caldor Fire devastated the community of Grizzly Flats, members of our Foundation Board of Directors gathered to help celebrate the completion of the next two Title 25 homes. These two homes were led by Elliott Homes through a partnership with El Dorado County and HomeAid Sacramento, with four additional homes led by USA Properties and NextCrafted currently underway.For our Board Members, it was especially meaningful to stand alongside the residents, organizations, businesses, donors and community partners who have remained committed to Grizzly Flats throughout the long road to recovery.Rebuilding a community takes time. It takes partnership. It takes persistence. Last Thursday, in partnership with El Dorado County, the Foundation held the first of 2 in-person ideation workshops as part of the Engage El Dorado initiative. Community members came out to learn about and provide input surrounding housing affordability and access to transportation within the County. A huge thanks to Lisa Baker for her expertise and leading the workshop!The next ideation workshop is scheduled for Thursday, September 10th at 5:30PM at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Placerville. One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Housing El Dorado, applied for and received $7,500 for their "Making Housing & Food Happen: Engaging El Dorado Faith Community" project. Conducted in partnership with Bridging Divides - El Dorado and local faith organizations, this initiative will build on 2025 outreach efforts to engage church leaders with the Food Bank of El Dorado County and Feeding the Foothills, to optimize food distribution through church networks. Additionally, the project will launch the "Making Affordable Housing Happen on Church Lands" initiative, modeled after a successful Placer County program. Funding will support the NorCal Congregational Land Initiative in hosting initial county-wide convenings to engage local church congregations in developing affordable housing on faith-owned properties, along with extending work by Bridging Divides to engage regional and national foundations to invest in EDC's community capacity. By integrating food security and housing advocacy, HED and its partners are leveraging faith-based resources to create sustainable, long-term solutions for the El Dorado County community.
What a beautiful evening for a Picnic in the Orchard, surrounded by friends, neighbors, local art, music and all in support of Images of Hope El Dorado.Images of Hope provides healing arts and supportive programs for people on the Western Slope of El Dorado County whose lives have been impacted by cancer or other trauma. Through art, movement, mindfulness and connection, their programs create opportunities for healing, strength and community. Tonight was a wonderful reminder that healing can take many forms and that community is certainly one of them. Congratulations and thank you to the Images of Hope team, volunteers, artists, supporters and everyone who helped make this special evening possible.
We had some very special visitors at the El Dorado Community Foundation today! Students from the El Dorado Union High School District’s Adult Transition Program, located on the El Dorado High School campus, stopped by to deliver some wonderful handmade gifts from their CapABLE Creations program.The Adult Transition Program helps young adults build important life skills, professionalism, and work experience as they prepare for greater independence and adulthood. We loved getting to see a little of that great work firsthand!And they brought an extra surprise: when they learned it was our Fiscal Associate’s birthday, they treated her to an impromptu rendition of “Happy Birthday!” 🎶🎂Thank you to these wonderful students and their team for brightening our office and sharing your talents with us. We loved having you visit.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Friends of Independence High School, applied for and received $7,500 for their Camp Concord Peer Advocacy and Science Camp project which will allow 23 students and five staff to attend a four-day, cross-curricular school trip at Camp Concord near Fallen Leaf Lake.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, RRUFF Healing Heroes Program, applied for and received $7,500 for their Service Dog Training Project, which will provide one El Dorado County veteran or first responder access to a structured service dog training program that improves independence and stability.Funds will be used exclusively to cover the participant's cost of training, which is $7,800 per individual. RRUFF Healing Heroes pays this cost directly to the training provider at the start of the program, removing the financial barrier to participation.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Junior Achievement of Sacramento, applied for and received $6,000 for their Future Ready Youth Project which will bring high-quality, hands-on, career exploration programs directly to rural communities to ensure students are not limited by geography when it comes to their future success.
Make a Difference in a Child's LiA Touch Of Understandingnding (ATOU) is looking for caring, enthusiastic volunteers to help them bring disability awareness workshops to local schools.Their volunteers help students build empathy, understanding, and inclusion through fun, interactive activities that make a lasting impact. No experience is necessary—they provide the training and support you need.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, South Tahoe Middle School PTA, applied for and received $7,500 for their Afterschool Enrichment Project which will fund afterschool clubs at South Tahoe Middle School, giving students opportunities to learn new activities and creating a safe environment for students to gather outside of regular school hours.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Saint Joseph Community Land Trust (SJCLT), applied for and received $7,500 for their TAHOE Program, which will preserve local affordable housing & provide SLT homeownership opportunities to moderate-income families who couldn't otherwise afford it.With construction costs rising 25-30% since COVID, SJCLT has broadened its focus beyond building new affordable homes to include preserving local existing affordable housing. To achieve this, SJCLT recently launched the TAHOE program to preserve affordable ownership housing in SLT by: Assisting first-time, income-qualified households in purchasing an existing home, purchasing existing homes & selling them to income-qualified households, and helping financially troubled households avoid foreclosure.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, El Dorado Musical Theatre, applied for and received $7,500 for their Youth Theater Access & School Partnership Program which will expand access to existing scholarship and school outreach efforts by offsetting rising participation and attendance costs.This project sustains and strengthens existing programs that are increasingly financially constrained, ensuring continued access to performing arts experiences for students across El Dorado County.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, SafeSteps4Kids,Inc., applied for and received $2,500 for their Car Safety Seats Project which will provide free car safety seats and safety education for families in need in El Dorado County. This funding is being used to purchase a laptop computer, LATCH Training Manuals, a set of Car Seat Safety Training Dolls, approximately 30 car safety seats, and outreach materials that will be distributed to community partners and at three separate public events.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, The HomeMore Project, applied for and received $2,500 for their Makeshift Traveler Backpack Project, which will provide 25 solar-powered backpacks to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Placerville in partnership with Upper Room Dining Hall Placerville California.Upper Room Dining Hall will assist in identifying recipients and distributing backpacks to individuals actively accessing meals and services. This ensures resources reach those most in need and are integrated into ongoing support. This project provides immediate, practical tools that improve communication, hygiene, and stability while strengthening engagement with local services.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Mother Teresa Maternity Home, applied for and received $7,500 for their Resident Transition and Mentoring Program which supports ongoing transition and impact that can occur for residents after they move into independent housing. This new program addresses root causes and helps residents maintain stability, supporting their long-term independence. This continued contact and support will help residents maintain health care routines for themselves and their babies and ensure vital mental health services are ongoing.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Encompass Youth, applied for and received $5,000 for their Hire UP Project that removes employment barriers for youth ages 15-24 and equips them with the skills, resources, and confidence needed to secure meaningful jobs and build long‑term career pathways. Many of these youth face significant obstacles such as limited work experience, transportation, lack of confidence in their abilities, and access to professional networks. Hire UP directly addresses these gaps through individualized coaching, hands‑on training, and structured career exploration. This investment ensures young people can access opportunities that would otherwise remain out of reach.

Highlighting another one of the Endow El Dorado recipients, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Sierra, who applied for and received $7,500 for their El Dorado County Youth Mentoring for Stronger Futures Project which will provide evidence-based one-to-one mentoring to at-risk youth through school-based, community-based, PALS (peer mentoring), Bigs with Badges (first responder mentoring), and Beyond School Walls programs.This funding will help reduce a current waitlist of over 54 youth and expand access to mentoring for youth facing academic challenges, family instability, and limited access to positive adult role models. Services will be delivered across El Dorado County schools and community sites to improve school engagement, build resilience, and reduce risk of negative outcomes.

One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Animal Outreach of the Mother Lode, applied for and received $7,500 for their Foster Intake and Exam Room Furnishing Project, which will equip a dedicated clinical space to evaluate and stabilize cats and kittens entering Animal Outreach facilities as they expand into their newly purchased facility. By strengthening their intake capacity, this project will improve health outcomes and enable Animal Outreach to serve a higher volume of animals efficiently while maintaining high-quality care.

Congratulations to another 2026 Endow El Dorado recipient, Assistance League Sierra Foothills, who applied for and received $7,500 for their Operation School Bell Project, which will provide new school clothes and shoes for disadvantaged students attending El Dorado County public schools in Fall of 2026. Operation School Bell removes barriers to school attendance and supports academic success, by putting new clothes and shoes into the hands of the youth that need it the most.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, NAMI El Dorado County, applied for and received $7,500 for their Combating Isolation Through Social Programming project which will allow NAMI's Clubhouse El Dorado to continue creating vital social activities for its members, who are adults with severe mental illness.
One of the 2026 Endow El Dorado recipients, Vista Rise Collective, applied for and received $5,000 for their Safe House Stability & Transition Project which will help maintain emergency shelter access for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse as Vista Rise Collective transitions to a new Safe House location. This funding ensures survivors and children continue to have access to safe, stable shelter without interruption during relocation.
Volunteers are needed for the Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference Kids Zone Area this Friday, July 3 at El Dorado Hills Town Center! Earn service hours, meet others, and gain experience interacting with the community in a joyful environment. It was our honor to once again host Philanthropy On Tap, our annual nonprofit networking event in both Tahoe and on the Western Slope of El Dorado County. This year we welcomed many new-to-the-event organizations and heard stories of the great work they are involved in throughout the county!As with last year, we had secret judges in the audience evaluating the presentations from each organization and deciding upon a winner to receive a $500 grant. This year's winners were the Boys & Girls Club El Dorado County Western Slope and the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe! Congratulations to the winners!

Last year we asked you to Engage with us on the topics of attainable housing and accessible transportation within El Dorado County. Through a collaborative approach between El Dorado County and the El Dorado Community Foundation, Engage El Dorado centered on hearing community voices, especially from underrepresented populations, seeking to understand local needs and the connection between attainable housing and transportation access. We welcome our community to join us in an upcoming series of summer meetings to explore collected data and brainstorm community-led ideas around these issues. Our community, our Club, and those that knew her, have all lost a true champion this week with the passing of Maureen Carter. Her vision of what philanthropy could do for the community she called home has transformed what giving looks like in El Dorado County. Our Club is better because of Maureen. Our County is better because of Maureen. All those that knew her are better because of Maureen. She fought hard over the past year and is now at rest and we ask that you keep Jim, Tiffany, Sarah and all those that loved her, in your prayers, as they navigate the loss of this extraordinary woman. We take the lessons we learned from Maureen. To be gracious, to be kind, to be generous, to laugh and to love. We take these lessons with us, and we pledge to carry on the work she believed in. To make our community better in whatever way we can. And as we take the baton from her, we are mindful that while this is incredibly sad and that life isn’t fair, she would want us to push forward and to be the best version of ourselves. And push forward we will, albeit with a new limp created by the loss we feel. "You will lose someone you can’t live without, and your heart will be badly broken, and the bad news is that you never completely get over the loss of your beloved. But this is also the good news. They live forever in your broken heart that doesn’t seal back up. And you come through. Today, the El Dorado Community Foundation was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Tahoe Basin Public Safety Training Complex at Lake Tahoe Community College. This exciting investment in our region will help train the next generation of firefighters, EMTs, forestry professionals, and emergency responders through hands-on, real-world learning opportunities.As a proud partner in this facility, we are inspired by the collaborative vision behind this project and the long-term impact it will have on regional resilience, workforce development, and public safety throughout the Tahoe Basin and beyond.
